Nutrisystem Select Vs Nutrisystem Basic - What is the Difference? Which is Better?

!±8± Nutrisystem Select Vs Nutrisystem Basic - What is the Difference? Which is Better?

I've gotten a few emails which have asked me to compare the Nutrisystem basic and select programs. People want to know how they are similar and different from each other so that they can figure out which program would be the better fit for them. So, in the following article, I will compare the two and will outline some of the major similarities and differences.

The Select And The Nutrisystem Basic Programs Basically Work In The Same Way: One of the main differences between these two weight loss programs is in the foods. But, they are both meal replacement diets that work in the same way. Basically, you will eat five small meals per day (provided by the company.) You are asked to add in fresh groceries with every meal, but this is very basic. An example would be adding in fruit with the diet's cereal or a cup of cottage cheese to one of the sandwiches.

The calorie, carb, protein, sugar, fat and fiber content of all of the foods remains pretty constant and that is true of both the select and the basic lines. You won't get lower calories or higher amounts of fiber in one over the other. In general, the calories, carbs, and nutrition are very similar. The company makes a real attempt to make all of it's lines "diet safe" and "glycemic friendly" regardless of which line it actually is.

The Main Difference Between Nutrisystem Select And Nutrisystem Basic Lies In The Foods: As you may have suspected, the food offerings are different between these two programs. However, some of the foods do overlap. For the most part, the select line offers frozen foods that are delivered by swan's frozen food delivery. In addition to the basic meals, you are offered many frozen options for each meal. For example, select breakfast meals include french toast, a breakfast burrito, and an omelet to name a few examples. Additional choices for lunch might be a steak and cheese melt, a chicken fajita sandwich, or a meatball sub. For dinner, you could have Salisbury steak, glazed turkey, or stuffed shells. And, for desserts, the select line offers frozen ice cream type of treats.

That's not to say that there aren't some very good offerings on the basic line. This is the original line that introduced the diet's pancakes, pizza, tacos, burgers, and cakes. But, the foods in the basic line are soft canned rather than being frozen. Some of my favorite meals are on the basic line, but there are some real winners on the select line also.

The Pricing Differences Between The Nutrisystem Select Line And The Basic Line: As you may have suspected, the select program is more expensive than the basic program. Generally speaking, the basic program's base price is around 9 for the month. The select line runs around 0. So, there is a premium placed on the frozen meals. However, you can generally use coupons with any of the monthly packages and these can sometimes offer you significant savings on either line.

So, Is Nutrisystem Select Worth The Additional Costs? This really is debatable. I know that some people are very clear on the fact that they would rather pay extra for the convenience and superior taste of the frozen meals. And, yes, some of the select foods are very good. But, I have never found the basic foods to be at all bad. Most of them are quite good also.

And, both of these packages allow you to customize your menu so that you are only including the foods that you know you are going to like. I guess this choice comes down to how important the pricing is in your decision making. But, I think that both lines offer good foods that are convenient and very much worth the money when you consider the cost of diet groceries and gas these days.
